The 29th of every month in Uruguay is gnocchi day. I'm not sure why, but apparently it started out as just the 29th of September then later spread to other months. Probably because gnocchi are so good. On the 29th of January, Maria, the woman I live with, made gnocchi for me and Cecile - homemade gnocchi, probably the best I've had in my life. I will not tell this to my Italian friends.
When we ate them we had to put a coin under the plate then stand up while eating the first 3 gnocchi. For each of these first three we made a wish. Then we could sit down and eat. I guess when in Uruguay, do as the Uruguayans do.
